    The vineyard of the Borghero estate is part of the “La Marchesa” property, owned by the Giulini family. The vineyard is part of the largest estate in the Gavi region and is a historical property with an astonishing landscape. Today, Vittorio Giulini chairs both a thriving fashion business as well as Tenuta La Marchesa in Gavi and Tenuta di Pietra Porzia in Frascati, Italy. Created from 100% cortese grapes grown exclusively at the Borghero Estate of the historic Giulini family, the Gavi has an aroma of ripe apple and wild flower bouquet. The taste is fresh and lively with a dry finish of almond. This wine is created using minimal sulfites in order to preserve the natural flavor of the elegant cortese grapes.     Vineyard rated one of the top 10 “Fastest Improving Producers” in Central Italy by the Wine Report 2009. Made of 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine is cultivated at over 400 meters above sea level giving it an especially delicate flavor. This is a fruity wine with considerable body that gives a fresh aroma of ripe cherries and underlying traces of oak. The Rosso di Montalcino goes well with all red meat, pasta dishes and cheeses.     This elegant and refined Brunello is created by winemaker Luciano Ciolfi from 100% Sangiovese grapes. The vintage of 2004 was distinguished by the extremely favorable climate in Tuscany. The spring rains, followed by hot and sunny summer days has led to an unparalleled vintage in terms of balance and integrity. Dark garnet red, with aromas of dried flowers, spices and ripe fruit, this Brunello displays good structure and tannins and a long finish. It pairs well with beef, game and mature cheeses. President Michael Votto was vacationing with his wife and having learned about Casalvento through the National Italian American Foundation, decided to stay at the vineyard. Since that fateful trip, we have come a long way and are very proud to now represent Casalvento. The vineyard is also one of the destinations on the first Votto Vines private estate tour which is slated for spring 2010 where not only will the guests taste the fabulous wines from Casalvento, but will also experience excellent dishes prepared by a Michelin Star Chef on staff.

    The Chianti Classico is a supreme example of the depth and quality of the sangiovese grape grown in this region for centuries. This wine shows ripe, jammy plum flavors with a hint of spice that allows for excellent pairing breath with many foods including medium cheeses, all red sauces, sausage, and other red meats.     The Monte Fiore is an exciting and dynamic wine from the up-and-coming region of Le Marche. Made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, the Monte Fiore demonstrates an aroma of violets and strawberries. Its flavor is a unique combination of spice and pepper with a hint of sweetness. A great compliment to many traditional italian dishes including pasta with red sauce, semi-mature cheeses and pork. The violin that outlines the label of this wine represents Antonio Stradivari, one of the most famous violin makers in history and his most prized violin, “The Messiah.” Il Messia is one of Domodimonti’s prized red wines and is gifted with an assortment of aromas derived from its intricate development.

    In the words of the producer, “This wine’s outermost intricacy, extraordinary papillary intensity and persistency leave a lasting impression on the palette.”  In other words, it’s very good!  Hints of vanilla spice; subtle French oak aging; soft tannins.  Awarded two glasses by Gambero Rosso.     The little-known Passerina varietal is an old-world Italian grape with an impressive new-world taste.     The Tabarrini vineyard is directed by Giampaolo Tabarrini, the grandson of the vineyard’s founder. Giampaolo has a great passion for the old styles of winemaking but employs very modern techniques in order to produce the highest quality wine possible. His enthusiasm for winemaking is contagious and it makes the trip from the US all the more enjoyable. Like all of Giampaolo’s wines, the Padrone delle Vigne is a well-structured and mature wine made from the finest grapes in Umbria. Padrone delle Vigne means “father of the vineyard” in Italian and was named for Giampaolo’s grandfather who previously owned and operated the Tabarrini vineyard and whose valuable lessons Giampaolo took to heart.

    Translated as “father of the vineyard,” Padrone delle Vigne is a blend of sangiovese, sagrantino, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon grapes. It displays a ruby red color and demonstrates a scent of fresh flowers and fruit. A well-structured and delicious wine from Umbria.     The Vitalonga Estate is boutique vineyard located in Ficulle, on a slope devoted to the production of grand wines on the upper Orvieto hills, a few kilometers from the western border between Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio: a place where aromas and flavors, arts and culture come together at once. The path of roses at the end of the vine rows marks the way through the estate, past the guesthouse and leads to the cellar.     The Taburni (ta-burr-knee) Domus farm produces wine using the strictest production standards that are very similar to the “organic” methods used in the States. The vineyard uses the minimum amount of sulfites to preserve the distinct and subtle flavors of the falanghina (fah-lan-gee-nah) grape.
